From Brief to Brochure

One of the most incredible experiences I had during my year in industry at the commercial photographic studio Box Photographic had to be seeing my work published. There is something truly surreal, whether it’s in print, on a brand’s website or on social media, knowing an image or series of images you created is out in the world being used professionally. Having my work published and approved by established brands such as Cotton Traders has been a huge motivator for me to continue to refine my skills and techniques. It also reinforced to me that I actually have what it takes to continue working in this field professionally post-graduation.

Following the entire process from brief to brochure has been an eye-opening experience. From initially seeing the mock-up image in the brief, understanding the expectations of the imagery and client. To execute the shoot,  considering the composition, lighting and styling of the garment throughout. Ensuring that the final image aligns with the client’s needs.

Also, using post-production to further refine the image, removing all dust and adding in drop shadows, until it meets the commercial standards. Seeing the final product, in this case, a nationally published brochure, has given me a deeper appreciation for the level of collaboration and precision that needs to go into commercial photography.

My placement was an invaluable opportunity that not everyone gets, and undeniably deepened my understanding of the industry. This experience has enriched my transferable skills and taught me how to successfully collaborate in a professional environment. The hands-on experience and insider knowledge I gained throughout this year have been instrumental in shaping my professional growth, helping me develop into a versatile and adaptable photographer.

Being trusted with the responsibility of shoots and continuously asked for my input made me feel like a valued part of the team.  Overall,  I am incredibly grateful to Box Photographic for the opportunity and feel more confident than ever in pursuing a professional career in this field post-graduation.
